Diagnosed with asbestos related cancer is very confronting. I was lucky enough to be referred to Slater and Gordon and Sean Sweeney. After being Medically Discharged from the Australian Defence Force (ADF) in Oct 2015, I initially was using an Advocate to assist me with various DVA Claims. I found it very difficult, as my assigned Advocate’s Caseload was so large, it was hard to book an appointment or get a response from an email. I was chatting with a former colleague, who recommended Slater & Gordon – Military Compensation Lawyers. Transitioning to Slater & Gordon was a simple and smooth process and my case was assigned to Teegan Head and her team, some have moved on, others like Zac Frost have been assisting me for this period. Teegan’s team have assisted me with completing forms, seeing specialists and making sure I was getting the appropriate compensation. Just over a year, we commenced a Full Claims Review with DVA. I was receiving regular updates and assistance from Zac and Monique Pinero. They would review my completed forms to ensure I wasn’t under reporting my conditions and they did a full review of my ADF Medical Records and identified other possible conditions too. This month I received word from DVA, via Teegan and her team, that my claim review had been completed and not only was I going to receive some compensation, that I had been upgraded from a DVA White Card to a DVA Gold Card. After 2 yrs of dealing with the stress of having major surgery and the mental health that came with the accident .The pain and suffering I still have to deal with on going Thinking my solicitor has my back it's just been heart wrenching they have just adviced me my case seems to be of little hope of a out come after supporting evidence and photos witness it counts for nothing medical reports from leading orthopedic surgeons after 2 yrs of asking why they have not bothering to send me to our own medical assessment surgeon . Still no response to that either lack of support from the beginning after my original solicitors from the company walked out of the firm probably the smart thing to do In reality That should of been the red flag warning for me .
